State of the Blog
Tiffany Dragonfly Lamp. The Richard H. Driehaus Museum, Chicago, IL

I have been pondering a lot on what I want to do with this blog. To be frank, I am completely burnt out on just reviewing pens and pencils. I feel like I don't have some sort of new revolutionary perspectives that add anything to the space, which is fine. I don't see that as a bad thing, rather it is just a fact. The issue I am having is that I made that my "brand". Like, oh yeah he's the pencil guy. That fine too but I don't want it to be the whole story.
The hobbies I indulge myself in tend to be expensive and gear-heavy. Cooking, photography, pens, cycling, to name a few. This is terrible on my wallet but good when it comes time to create. I have always wanted to tell stories, and I think there's a way to tie all of this together.
I've been workshopping a video about the tools that keep my life in order. Not necessarily a list of recommendations but as a way to wrap everything into a single narrative about how these objects and systems support the way I'm trying to live. That feels like the right direction.
I never really tried to make the blog "blow up". I've always done it for myself, but it would be nice if it at least paid for the hosting on the site. Seems like a reasonable goal.
For the past 4 years, one of my New Year's resolutions has been to do something with this blog. I'm finally at a point in my life where I feel like I can actually do that. I'm sort of doing some internal restructuring and trying to make time for things that make me feel fulfilled, and to just do more fulfilling things in general. I am by no means an artist but I have been told I can write pretty well, so this is what I do.
I could always just come on here and ramble into the ether, but that doesn't sound as fun as building something sick.
Thanks as always for reading. We will see where Mechanical Inclination is in a year. Stay sharp.
